Maureen Bunyan — one of DC’s Veteran TV New Anchors may have done her last news broadcast.  Sinclair Broadcast Group, her parent company informed her that they will not renew her contract.

Bunyan who served as News Anchor for Channel 9 News for many years moved over to Channel 7 when her long time co-anchor Gordon Peterson left and went to ABC Channel 7 News.  She left Channel 9 in 1999.

Sinclair Broadcast Group has decided to go younger to seek and more diverse audience.  First it was Arch Campbell, Channel 7’s  entertainment reporter and a 40-year veteran of local news.  Then it was veteran sportscaster Tim Brant, who was also doing National Network Sports,  then anchor Leon Harris. who came to DC from CNN News.   Anchor Gordon Peterson — one of the deans of Washington TV news — retired in 2014 rather than work for Sinclair.

So after Anchoring News in the Washington, DC area for more than 40 years, we may have seen the last of the Beautiful Maureen Bunyan who is 71.

I personally wish her the very best.
