After turning down a position that was in his career field – Secretary of Health & Human Services, where he could have regulated the medical industry and would have been the boss to the U.S. Surgeon General, he is not being nominated and said that he will accept the position of Secretary of Housing and Urban Development – the transition team has announced.
“Ben Carson has a brilliant mind and is passionate about strengthening communities and families within those communities. We have talked at length about my urban renewal agenda and our message of economic revival, very much including our inner cities. Ben shares my optimism about the future of our country and is part of ensuring that this is a Presidency representing all Americans. He is a tough competitor and never gives up” — words from President Elect Donald Trump.
The secretary of Housing and Urban development oversees federal public housing programs and helps formulate policy on homelessness and housing discrimination. All cabinet secretaries would have to be confirmed by the Senate.
