Update: Will It Actually Happen This Time? House Passes Bill Proposing to Make Washington, D.C., the 51st State But Still Waiting On Senate Vote

The fight goes on for Statehood in The District of Columbia and the Leaders of the city have announced that if Washington, D.C. ever becomes a State that it was be called “The State of Washington, D.C.” – with the D.C. standing for Douglass Commonwealth; in honor of Frederick Douglass, who was a notable resident of The District of Columbia.

The new name will be added to the proposed state constitution that city residents will get to vote on in November.

District of Columbia leaders still say it’s a long shot with all Republicans in Congress still opposing statehood for Washington, D.C.
