Will the school year for Maryland Public Schools all start on the same date — if Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has his way they will.   Governor Hogan is holding a news conference on tomorrow in Ocean City and political pundits are under the impression that he will announce that all Public Schools will start the day after Labor Day.

Recently Governor Hogan has been associating himself with Comptroller Peter Franchot lately who is a strong advocate for schools starting after Labor Day.  Peter Franchot has said in the past that extending the summer will add $74-75 Million Dollars into the State’s Economy.

For those of us who grew up in the 60’s & 70’s may remember that all schools started the day after Labor Day in unison.  Now all counties and jurisdictions start at a different time and date from the middle of August to the latter part of August.
