D.C. police have arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of a teenager Monday morning at the Deanwood Metro station.

A police spokesman confirmed the arrested to WTOP, only saying the suspect is an 18-year old man from Northeast. The investigation is ongoing and more details are expected to be released Tuesday.

John Evans, 15, was stabbed after he passed through the Metro fare gates around 11 a.m. Emergency crews took the teen to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. By the afternoon, police released information about a person of interest who had run off.

It is not yet clear what led to the stabbing.
“I just feel empty,” said the victim’s mother, Terogie Wells.

She said she and her son recently moved from their Northeast D.C. neighborhood to Richmond, Virginia, to get away from violence. Evans had returned to D.C. for a court appearance.

“It’s hard for any parent to go through something like that,” Wells added.

Just last month, Davonte Washington, also 15, was shot and killed at the same Metro station while sitting with his mom and younger sisters, waiting for a train.
