Pharoh:  taken from WTOP

Two members of the D.C. Council are urging Democratic mayoral nominee Vincent Gray to keep schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee on board for an extended transition.

Council members Mary Cheh and Tommy Wells say keeping Rhee through 2012 would help ensure stability for the school system. Wells and Cheh both supported Gray for mayor.

Politics could get in the way, though. Rhee actively campaigned against Gray for Mayor Adrian Fenty. Gray defeated Fenty on Tuesday night.

Gray has not committed to keeping Rhee. At public hearings, he has questioned her honesty and her ability to manage a public budget. Rhee has signaled she does not want to work for him.

At a news conference Wednesday, Fenty wouldn’t comment on Rhee’s future. He says it will be up to Rhee and Gray.
