sickle cell disease

When Adriana was born, routine tests revealed she suffered from sickle cell disease.

For several years, Adriana would experience pain crises and have to be hospitalized for a few days at a time. But when she was 5 years old, Adriana experienced a pain crisis that resulted in a stroke. Her doctor sent her to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® for her ongoing treatment.

“We love St. Jude so much,” said Adriana’s grandmother. “There’s love everywhere. Adriana understands her sickle cell, and she loves coming to the hospital.”

Adriana loves to sing. She’s part of children’s chorus that has traveled all over the United States and to countries such as London and Jamaica. “She’s high-spirited and bubbly,” her grandmother said. “We’re so grateful for everything that St. Jude has done for her.”
