(Washington, DC) — DC Police are seeing an increase in the number of purses being stolen from the backs of chairs in area clubs and restaurants. An alert was issued yesterday, warning people in the Second District about the thefts. Investigators say the thieves very skilled and have apparently practiced their techniques. Police say in many cases, the thefts are carried out by teams who distract customers and employees and divert their attention from their purses, wallets and cellphones. The victims often don’t know their items have been stolen until it’s time for them to pay their bills.
