Shop Maryland Energy takes place this coming weekend, and purchases of certain Energy Star products will be tax free. Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot is reminding residents that the six-percent sales tax will be waived tomorrow through Washington’s Birthday on Monday on such items as energy efficient appliances, heat pumps, CFL bulbs and programmable thermostats. The special weekend results from legislation passed in 2007.
