APRIL 23, 1872 – “CHARLOTTE RAY” ~ was the first African-American female lawyer
in the United States. Ray graduated from Howard University School of Law in 1872 and became the first female
admitted to the District of Columbia Bar. She was also the “first woman permitted to argue cases in front of the U.S. Supreme Court and it happened on this day 1872.
